Okay, so its been awhile....a really long while since Ive been able to post any journal entries, let alone pictures.  My name sounds busy enough with out adding the hours of work is needed to make anything.  I have been working on a Kirin since about August when all of the supplies finally came in.  Its very large though, much larger than I anticipated originally so its taking a lot of time to finish.  I have been reluctant to post any WIP pics but the face and neck are complete.  Im sculpting his back end now, which I put on hold until things from the holiday season calm down.
Speaking of the holiday's, I signed up for a holiday ornament swap on the Windstone Editions forum.  After you sign up, your given a random name with that persons likes and interests.  We then had to hand make an ornament for who ever you got.  Wouldnt you know the person I was to make something for was scenceable (you can find her here as well as FB.  Her studio name is Quoquenox Art).  She is the person responsible for inspiring me to try sculpting!!!  I wanted to make something truly special for her.  I had to set my Kirin down, and start a new one...much smaller but it turned out to be my very first completed sculpture!!!
Its a rearing Kirin with wings that are posable.  She can hang on a Christmas tree, or free stand on a shelf.  Shes maybe 4 inches tall though I never actually measures it.  I named her Jewel as I thought it suited her in her shiny, sparkly pink and lavender colors.  She has a coat pattern of a blanket appaloosa and has lots of sparkly spots.  She may not be perfect but she was my first non- the less so im still very proud.
Also in the works is a portrait sculpt of a friends horse.  She has done so much for me so I wanted to make her something she would really love.  She has a snow flake Appaloosa quarter horse.  Im nearly done with the sculpting part and will hopefully begin painting it soon after.  I guess after that I can try and finish up the sculpture that was supposed to be my first....the big rearing Kirin :)

Ive been wanting to start a sculpture for a bit now and finally have about half of what I need to start.  On Friday June 10th, I sat down and began drawing the ideas I had for my first sculpture.  I decided on a Kirin though I went back and fourth about that before I settled on the idea!  I definitly knew it was going to be horse related, rather, Unicorn related anyway.  The first Kirin I ever saw...let alone heard of, was a sculpture done by Scenceable Named Aphelion.  I could not get over how beautiful he was and from there started poking around the web for more information on Kirin's in gereral.  So, I realize that there isnt exactly a "correct type"  As with any unicorn, I guess its all about how the artist create's them to be.  I really liked the uniqueness of them and also the individuality.  Ideas started flowing and the next thing I knew, I was spending a few ours on the concept and design of what my Kirin would look like.  I posted a few pictures in a folder titled " Sculptures in progress".  So far its just the concept drawing and the completed armature.
The armature I started right after I got done drawing.  I had two idea for poses but finally decided on one of them.  I may still do the other if this sculpture goes well.  Who knows how this will all work out but I am excited about getting this far.  Im hoping to start adding clay in the next day or two.  Its difficult though when you have little fingers making off with your tools and such!  Mostly, I only have evenings to get done what I can.  The rest of the time Im busy trying to get through the day with three little kids!!  So thats about it for now.  Im hoping some people have a chance to see the pictures I put up as well as recieving some comments!  You cant have too much feedback though Id rather not hear from people who just want to tear me up for what ever reason.  There will be more to come though as I work through all this and plan on keeping up to date....or as up to date as time allows, of the progress Im making on my first sculpture as well as future sculptures.  Thanks and I hope you like what Ive done so far!

Inspiration

So I pretty new to this site but wanted to start a journal entry.  I consider myself a self made artist though I have not done anything in some time.  I am an equine freak!!!  Ive always drawn horses and unicorns, pretty much since I could hold a pencil.  I really love having an idea in my head, or an image and then bring it to life on paper!  I really LOVE sculpture and have only tried sculpting once which turned out to be a disaster of sorts.  It was a portrait of my dog but at the time, I had no idea what I was doing or what kind of clay to use.  I wound up using air drying clay and did not use an armature of any kind.  Nor did I have the right tools.  It actually turned out OK for a first and I was really proud of it but because I didnt have the right tools, or use an armature, it broke in several peices and I was able to critique it better when the excitment wore off.  It wasnt very good at all but I have faith in myself and my ability to try again!
I was on another forum and someone posted their artwork.  I was BLOWN away!!!  I wanted one off her sculpture so badly and was intriged on how she made these awesome, realistic unicorn sculptures.  After finding her here, I started thinking that maybe I should try again.  Why not?  What do I have to loose?  You either are artistic, or your not.  If you are, you cant loose it.  You can become rusty but I dont think you can go from being able to create something, weather its a sculpture or a painting or whatever, to NOT being able to create once again.  Its all about being inspired by something or someone.  I am dedicating this entry to the person who has truely inspired me to start creating once again.  She uses the name *scenceable on this site.  If you havent browsed her gallery, DO IT!! If you love the Equine form, you wont be dissapointed!  She is fantastic!  Im finding others as well but I wouldnt of even found this site if it werent for her work!
Hopefully in the next month or so I can start on my first sculpture.  It will be a Kirin, which is a Chinese unicorn.  There was a listing on ebay for a Ooak Kirin sculpture by *scenceable that ended last Sunday (6/5/11).  I was fortunate enough to outbid everyone else which was just amazing to me because this sculpture was enormously popular!!!  His name is "Aphelion" and will be the very first Kirin to be added to my collection which only consits of unicorns, and pegasus.  Of those, the majority are Windstone unicorns and pegasus.  I also have about 6 princeton Gallery unicorns as well.  Cant wait to add Aphelion!
So hopefully I will be able to start soon and with any any luck, Ill be able to take this on around by hecktic schedule of raising 3 small children as well as take care of the barn!  So much to do, so little time!  Once again, A HUGE, HUGE, THANK YOU to Scenceable and her gorgeous creations for inspiring me to walk down this path once again, and maybe this time, for good!  I will try my best to keep up with new entries and well as post progress reprts and photo's of my work.
